‘Top Gun: Maverick’ producer Skydance worth $4 billion after private equity investment
Skydance Media has emerged as the latest company to be valued at more than $4 billion.
Its upcoming action movie, ‘Maverick’, is being written by James Toback, who co-wrote ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
The film, which is said to be about a U.S Naval Fighter Pilot who becomes a legend at the height of the Vietnam War, has been described as a modern-day equivalent for ‘Top Gun’ starring Tom Cruise.
‘Top Gun: Maverick – a film that redefines war’s place in the movies,’ a synopsis reads. ‘The son of a naval aviator, Lt. James Maverick is sent as an ace over Vietnam, but his own life is thrown upside down when his unit is dispatched to destroy the USS Maddox. Maverick becomes a legend when he destroys the carrier in the battle of the Iwo Jima.’
James Toback, who is currently producing ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, was the co-writer of the original Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise in 1986. The film was one of the biggest ever at the time and also starred Anthony Edwards, Randy Quaid, and Rance Howard.
He had co-written the screenplay with his brother, James Toback Jr., who was the producer behind ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’
‘We are very well-acquainted with the film, the story and the actors,’ Toback Jr. was quoted as saying. ‘James is in the running to be the producer. We are going to do everything we can do to get the film made. But at this point, the film’s script is in very good shape.’
The film is currently being filmed in the US, but the main filming has taken place in Ireland.
He added that the project is very important to the elder Toback, who is in the midst of negotiating to sell his property in Dublin to a Chinese businessman.
‘We don’t know yet the full nature of the relationship,’ Toback Jr. added.
‘It will be a great partnership, and we’ll be very happy to share that with anyone that wants to share with us.’
